Wednesday:) What Do You See?

7 Jan

Just remember, during the winter, far beneath the bitter snow, that there’s a seed that with the sun’s love in the spring becomes a rose.”
– Bette Midler
***********

So, what do you see when the rose petals fall?

The harshness of winter, or nothing at all?

The seasons foreshadow what time can’t evade.

That bright crimson blossoms must whither and fade.

But there ‘neath the shadows a lone bud awaits,

To weather the storm and to challenge the fates.

~ Toni Armenta Andrukaitis

The cycle of life, the cycle of nature is always looming. We can view it as the end of what was or the promise of what can be. That’s what I see when I look at the single rose bush in my front yard. The old roses are faded and whithered. It’s winter, it’s January, there are still strong hopeful buds waiting to emerge. I choose to admire the tenacity of the tiny bud, than to mourn the demise of the beautiful red rose. Hope springs eternal in the Spring.

What the Heck Wednesday

7 Aug

Show me somebody who is always smiling, always cheerful, always optimistic, and I will show you somebody who hasn’t the faintest idea what the heck is really going on.
~Mike Royko
**********
That’s a good quote, Mike. As a rule, I was always smiling, cheerful, etc. Not so much lately, but in the past. Just goes to show, I didn’t have the faintest idea what the heck was going on.

I’m older, wiser, and maybe not as cheerful, but I’ve gotten a lot smarter, a lot tougher. I kinda liked that naive looking through rose colored glasses life, but it wasn’t the real world.

I still smile and laugh quite a bit, and look forward to a lot more in the future. That’s optimism, right? Yes, I’m still optimistic.

Saturday: Singing and Snappin’ in the Kitchen

27 Jul

“This is the key to life: To expect everything to be given to you from above, yet to be genuinely surprised and forever grateful, when they are. Expecting all good things to be yours, while not knowing how to take anything for granted. If there may be a key in life, this is the key.”
― C. JoyBell C.

I’m having a good Saturday, how about you.? An early walk, followed by meeting Mandy and Julia for coffee, followed by visiting, lunch with “the best realtor/friend, Linda Grossman,”(this is not a paid announcement) and going back up to look at my new house. It’s still not a100% done deal, but getting closer every day. Keep those fingers crossed!

I’m still dancing in the kitchen, but I’m adding singing positive, uplifting songs to my repertoire. Feel free to sing along.

SOMETHING’S COMING
Could be!
Who knows?
There’s something due any day;
I will know right away,
Soon as it shows.
It may come cannonballing down through the sky,
Gleam in its eye,
Bright as a rose!

Who knows?
It’s only just out of reach,
Down the block, on a beach,
Under a tree.
I got a feeling there’s a miracle due,
Gonna come true,
Coming to me!

Could it be? Yes, it could.
Something’s coming, something good,
If I can wait!
Something’s coming, I don’t know what it is,
But it is
Gonna be great!

With a click, with a shock,
Phone’ll jingle, door’ll knock,
Open the latch!
Something’s coming, don’t know when, but it’s soon;
Catch the moon,
One-handed catch!

Around the corner,
Or whistling down the river,
Come on, deliver
To me!
Will it be? Yes, it will.
Maybe just by holding still,
It’ll be there!

Come on, something, come on in, don’t be shy,
Meet a guy,
Pull up a chair!
The air is humming,
And something great is coming!
Who knows?
It’s only just out of reach,
Down the block, on a beach,
Maybe tonight . . .
Music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.

Theme Song Thursday:Smile

30 May

“The road of life is filled with sunshine and clouds, black and white, triumphs and tragedies. As we continue down the road, we decide which things we bring with us, and which we leave in the rear-view mirror.”
― Julie-Anne
***********
I am always in awe of the beauty and majesty of the golden sunlight bursting through the clouds. When I see the glory of nature, I am compelled to take a picture and share it with the world. Today, the sunshine glowing behind this cloud made me see that there is always a silver lining behind each cloud. So, why not smile! “Smile and maybe tomorrow you’ll see the sun come shining through for you.”

“Smile”

Smile though your heart is aching
Smile even though it’s breaking
When there are clouds in the sky, you’ll get by
If you smile through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You’ll see the sun come shining through for you

Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That’s the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what’s the use of crying?
You’ll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile

[instrumental interlude]

That’s the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what’s the use of crying?
You’ll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile

Theme Song Thursday:That’s Life

11 Jul

I just love Sinatra, don’t you? These are great optimistic words and a timeless song.

That’s life (that’s life), that’s what all the people say
You’re ridin’ high in April, shot down in May
But I know I’m gonna change that tune
When I’m back on top, back on top in June

I said that’s life (that’s life), and as funny as it may seem
Some people get their kicks stompin’ on a dream
But I don’t let it, let it get me down
‘Cause this fine old world, it keeps spinnin’ around

I’ve been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet, a pawn and a king
I’ve been up and down and over and out and I know one thing
Each time I find myself, flat on my face
I pick myself up and get back in the race

That’s life (that’s life), I tell you I can’t deny it
I thought of quitting, baby, but my heart just ain’t gonna buy it
And if I didn’t think it was worth one single try
I’d jump right on a big bird and then I’d fly

I’ve been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet, a pawn and a king
I’ve been up and down and over and out and I know one thing
Each time I find myself layin’ flat on my face
I just pick myself up and get back in the race

That’s life (that’s life), that’s life and I can’t deny it
Many times I thought of cuttin’ out but my heart won’t buy it
But if there’s nothin’ shakin’ come this here July
I’m gonna roll myself up in a big ball a-and die

My life!
