Friday:) Four Fiery Sunsets From My Walk and 5,000 Steps

6 Jun

Wow! It was a really hot day today. I asked my Google assistant (little round talking thingy) OK, Google, what’s the temperature? She said, ” In McKinney, the temperature is 86 degrees, it with the heat index, it feels like 105 degrees.” Well, that made my decision of not going out for a walk until sunset.

Now, here’s a question for you? Do you ever give yourself these little challenges, like I’m going to do so many push ups or sit ups, or get the kitchen cleaned before watching tv? Little challenges. Well, I couldn’t do a single push up if my life depended on it, but I make other self-challenging goals. I try to get out every evening to take pictures of the sunset, often driving home really fast to get out for my walk. (Like today)

Tonight, as I was making loops around the neighborhood pond, I took a picture after each loop, from the same spot, capturing the stunning setting sunset.

Another challenge I make is trying to walk every night and increase my step count. I have that heart ❤️ thingy on my phone that counts my steps, so tonight when I looked at the count, it was around 3,000. So, I told myself, I’m going to get at least 4,000 before I go home. Now remember, it was still hot out there. I checked after a few more loops and I was almost there. Guess what, I’m going to try 5,000 steps. I sometimes push even a little more. It felt good to accomplish this little goal. 👍🏼

Now, for my last challenge and tradition. YEP! It’s Black Russian Friday.

CHEERS!!!!! Happy Black Russian Friday, my friends.

Friday:) Finally Filled up the Wine Rack

When I moved into my new house, August 23, 2014, I had just a few bottles of wine, maybe 6. I wasn’t a big wine drinker. I had plenty of hard liquor, mostly remains from a well stocked bar that a certain someone didn’t care to take with him when he moved out. When I tried to figure out where to store my wine, I realized that I didn’t have a place to store them, because it’s supposed to be stored lying on its side. The old house had a built-in wine rack and wet bar.

I looked all over for a small wine rack. I couldn’t find anything that I liked. One day, I was at a neighborhood garage sale, and found this awesome wooden wine rack for only $25.

This photo is from September 2014. My goal was to see if I could eventually fill every slot of this cool rack. When I put in the few random bottles of wine that I had moved with me, it looked very empty and sad. When I went to the store, I would buy one or two bottles of wine. I’d lovingly place them in the slots.

Here’s the bad part. You’ve heard the saying, “Two steps forward, three steps back.” Well, I’d buy a few bottles of wine, then I’d drink one or two. Sometimes I’d have friends over, or I’d go to a friend’s house and take a bottle of wine. The poor thing never got filled.

Well, today was the day. I was at Sprouts and bought 6 bottles of wine, on sale, of course. Granted, it was inexpensive wine, but I’m not a connoisseur of fine wine. I was so excited when the very last bottle filled the very last slot.

After nearly four years, my goal has been accomplished. Now that I’ve completed my mission, let the consumption begin.

If you’re in the neighborhood, feel free to stop by for a glass of wine. The next goal is to empty the wine rack. I think that this task will be a little easier than the former.

Tuesday:) Toni’s Terrific Blogging Adventure

“Life is short. Live it, taste it. Never waste it.”

“My daily blogging has become an intimate personal diary of my life. I have shared my joys, laughter, tears and sorrows. And, because of you, there is never a day that I can’t find something wonderful to write about.”

~Toni Armenta Andrukaitis

I’ve been anxiously awaiting this benchmark number. You may recall, my original challenge to myself was to write a daily blog for one entire year. That would be 365 consecutive days. Today, I have written and passed the 2,000 mark of consecutive posts, with over 92,000 views, and 49,000 visitors. I have 774 WordPress followers, 347 Facebook followers, 135 on Twitter, and 38 on Tumblr. I think that’s pretty awesome!

THANK YOU!

It’s been over 5 years of blogging, telling stories, taking pictures, and sharing my little world with the rest of you. If I have influenced, inspired, or brought joy to just one person, I have accomplished my goal. This has made my life so joyful and rewarding. Every day, I wake up wondering what I’ll write about. I see beauty that I’d never seen before. Writing helps me focus on what’s important. And that is… “Life is short. Live it, taste it. Never waste it.”

“The universe is made of stories, not of atoms.” ― Muriel Rukeyser

Some of you already know this, and some of you are new here on my page… I started writing my blog January 1, 2013. It was my New Year’s challenge. I love to write, so I wanted to see if I could write a blog post every day for an entire year, 365 consecutive days. I wasn’t sure if  I could do it, but when I give myself a challenge, I don’t give up.

Well, if you notice today’s date, August 2, 2017, not only did I meet my challenge, but I haven’t missed a day in 4 1/2 years. There were a couple of internet glitches where my story didn’t get posted on time, but one was written every day for 1,687 days so far.

I remember when I reached 10,000 views. I couldn’t believe it. Me, a no name writer-wannabe, had my stories viewed 10,000 times. Then, there were 100 followers, then 200 followers. Now, I have over 1,000 followers! Oh my goodness! Every time I reached another amazing milestone on my stats, I would share my amazement with my wonderful readers.

When I started writing in 2013, my posts were the typical suburban housewife tales of tennis matches, friends, family, happenings on the square, and everyday life in McKinney Texas. This blog has seen me through my early countless carefree moments, all the way through a devastating divorce, betrayal, pain and more. This has become my daily diary, my escape, and my voice.

Each day that I shared my life and my world with you, this helped me grow, learn, and heal. Now, I start each day looking for something interesting, beautiful, positive, or inspirational, so I can share it with all my new friends that I’ve made here, and all the old friends I’ve known for ages.

Today, I hit 75,147 views during my 1,687 days of writing, and I’ve had 38,554 visitors.

The number of people following my blog is just overwhelming. 1,186 followers. Woa!!! How did that happen??? I guess writers and readers are like me. The most popular days and hour of views is Sunday at 3 a.m.  Sounds about right.

My new goal, or shall I say, my new mission, is ” To boldly go where no man has gone before.” I’m going to shoot for FIVE YEARS. I also happen to be a huge STAR TREK fan.

“Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.”

So, that’s what I’be been doing…EXPLORE NEW WORLDs~ I actually ate sushi and went to the VFW Hall to sing karaoke. SEEK OUT NEW LIFE AND NEW CIVILIZATIONS~ I have ventured out past McKinney and went to Plano, Allen, and Prosper. I even drove to Oklahoma! Now, that’s some strange civilization right there. TO BOLDLY GO WHERE…well, you know the rest. This is my five year mission. Wish me luck and “BEAM ME UP, SCOTTY.”

THANK YOU!

I’ve been watching the stats on my WordPress page for several days. I was getting close to the 60K mark of total views, and almost 30 K total visitors on my blog. It’s been an exciting personal challenge for me to see how many people I could reach with my little mundane stories of faith, family, love, heartache, and heartwarming tales that I’ve experienced along this wonderful but bumpy journey we call life.

My initial personal challenge was to see if I could write a blog every day for entire year. That first day was January 1, 2013, and guess what? It’s been over  3 1/2 years, and I haven’t missed a day. There were a couple of days my story didn’t get posted because of Internet failure, but the story was written and posted later. I haven’t missed a day. I write and share every day

This writing challenge has been more of an inspiration, a healing, and a constant source of joy. I have met many interesting bloggers and have read many fascinating stories and poems, and have seen fabulous photography and videos.

This afternoon, around 3:30, I saw the 29,999 visitors and I was holding my breath waiting for the next number. YES! At 3:34, I saw 30,000 visitors. 1,378 consecutive posts!

The reason I wrote, “We Did It” in the title is because I just wrote the stories and took the pictures. You are the ones who have read, commented, shared, laughed, cried, and prayed along with me. It is OUR journey. I have shared with you, and have learned so much from you.

Friday: 502 Days and Counting

“Desire is the key to motivation, but it’s determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal – a commitment to excellence – that will enable you to attain the success you seek.”

When I started writing this blog on January 1, 2013, my lofty goal was to try and find something to write about for 365 consecutive days. I wasn’t sure at first if it was possible, but I knew when I put my mind to do something, anything, by golly, I do it.

So, as the year flew by, and the original challenge became a rewarding ritual, I found that I needed to write every day. I was determined to find something profound, funny, sad, or informative to share. It made each day an adventure and worth living, from the wonderful sunny days, down to those dark, devastating, I want to stay curled up in my bed and cry days. I’ve had them all and shared them all with you, my friends, family and strangers.

So now, 502 days and 16,682 views later, I am as exhilarated and motivated as I was that first day. WOW! That’s amazing! Thank you all SO MUCH for all the kind responses, likes, and views. Mr. Andretti was right. I have achieved success.
