Friday:) Freezing Cold, Fun with Belle, No Firemen

7 Dec

“So when you’re cold

From the inside out

And don’t know what to do,

Remember love and friendship,

And warmth will come to you.”

― Stephen Cosgrove

Wow! It’s been pretty cold here. It got all the way up to 23 degrees earlier. Tonight will get down to around 15. (Can you say shiver me timbers?) I took Elvis out for a walk this afternoon. Not the real Elvis, of course. Elvis, is a dog. He tugs on his leash like the real Elvis tugs on your heart.

I don’t know what I was thinking. The sun was out for a few hours, but that didn’t stop my hands from getting numb. I think I’m spoiled living in Texas. It can get pretty cold there too, but for a few minutes.

Even though it’s cold out, it really doesn’t matter. What matters is being with family, friends, but most of all… quality Gamma time.

It’s Friday already. Where did the time go? I hope to keep up with my traditions while I’m here. I’m going to visit with my sister a few days, I sure hope she has the fixings for my Black Russians, otherwise we’re going to have to run to the store…liquor store, that is.

I’m also going to miss my Fire Station 9 friends back home. I did stop there with some brownies and taco fixings right before I left. I’ll just have to bake and make up for lost time when I get back home.

Happy Friday, my Friends. Stay warm wherever you are,

Friday:) Fun Friends, Fancy Footwork, and More Firemen

3 Nov

“If I could just squeeze in a few more hours in the day, I’d have a lot more fun. Where does the time go?”

~Toni Armenta Andrukaitis

Its almost 11 pm, and my boots have been hittin’ the ground running all day. Well, I take that back. I don’t wear boots, I can’t run with my bad knee, but I’ve been scootin’ around town all day.

I started off getting up early to pick up Bella, my doggie friend, and taking her for a walk. Then, take a batch of brownies to Miss Kathy across the street, make another two batches of brownies for the bake sale at St. Gabe’s, and my fire station friends. While the brownies baked, I mixed up some chocolate frosting.

We had a birthday lunch for Miss Sherry at 12:30, so I packed up my presents, grabbed my container of brownies for Fire Station 9, and was out the door just a little past noon.

I took a batch to the guys on Tuesday before Halloween, and asked them to save my container. Captain Floyd was kind enough to return the container to me this morning, so I took an another batch over at noon, right out of the oven. I put a sticky note on it that said, “If you save this container, I’ll keep refilling it.”

Off to lunch with the TOTS, the Table Of Talent Sisters. These girls have been with me through thick and thin, literally. It was Sherry’s birthday. I just noticed, I’m the only one without glasses. I should have put on my glasses. Love these girls.

After lunch, I stopped at Walmart on my way home to get a new battery for my car key fob. The light on my dashboard kept flashing “CHANGE BATTERY ON KEY FOB!” Ok, already.

I got home a little after 4, and still had to frost a few more brownies and pack them up and get them over to church before 5. Yikes! I got there at 4:58. I took six containers of brownies.

Back in the car and hurry home, walk the dog quick, change, curl my hair, and get over to pick up Miss Pat for dinner at Braum’s by 6, and meet Doug for dinner, then go to the Friday night dance at the senior center. Yikes! Made it.

The dance was fun. The first Friday of the month, they have a live band, City Lights. It’s a country band with a Little Rock and Roll thrown in every now and then. I’m starting to learn a few more line dancing steps. Slowly but surely. Lots of cowboy hats. You’d think we were in Texas, or somethin’.

I finally got home around 10pm. I called my sister, after missing her calls earlier. I was all discumbobbled and running on adrenaline. After a couple minutes talking, I stood up while I was talking to her and was looking all over for my cell phone. Did I leave it in the car? I thought, “Darn, I just cancelled my home land-line phone, so how am I going to call my cell to find out where it is?” Then, I realized, “What are you talking on SILLY?”

Yep! A little too much crazy busy. But I love it. Now, to fix my Friday night Black Russian. Cheers!

Friday:) Fireside Chat

24 Feb

“We remember though all the firelit glow

Of a great hearth’s gleam and glare,

And we looked for a space at each happy face

And the love that was written there.”

Caris Brooke

I’m sitting down in the foyer at Mom’s condo, next to the cozy fireplace.

I thought, what a perfect place to write, and what a perfect topic for Friday. A fireside chat. Some of you may remember from history, FDR’s fireside chats, or some of you may have heard them on the radio yourself. Radio? What is a radio?

Hers a great FDR quote. “When you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on.”

Franklin D. Roosevelt

Today was another busy day, cleaning, sorting, running to the bank, cemetery, monument place, the store and lunch. I asked my sister if I could, “Please, please, please, get some Chicago pizza for lunch.” I’ll be back in Texas tomorrow and will miss the pizza. She humored me and I ate half a pizza. Oh, so good right out of the brick oven.

It’s been a long, busy, sad, painful, happy, grateful, bitter-sweet few weeks. All I can say is, I am truly blessed.

Happy Friday!

Friday:) A Fine Day and Fine Friends, Furry and Otherwise

21 Jan

“When you start to do the things that you truly love, it wouldn’t matter whether it is Monday or Friday; you would be so excited to wake up each morning to work on your passions.” ― Edmond Mbiaka

Wow! A fabulous Friday here in McKinney. The sun was shining, and I was out walking little Bella, no jacket needed. The temps were in the upper 60’s, maybe more. Is this really January?

My little furry friend was just as happy as I was to be strolling through the sunny park.

After our late afternoon walk, I dropped Bella off back home, and continued my walk around the neighborhood. I had a feeling that Ms. Sandy and Mr. Larry would be sitting in their usual spot in the garage, waiting for Miss Toni to pass by.

Yep, there they were, and Mr. Joe from across the street was sitting in MY chair. Oh no! He jumped up really quick, beer in hand. I found a pink folding chair behind the tall red toolbox and assured Joe that I was fine. I nonchalantly walked over to the well stocked fridge and grabbed a beer, plopping myself down next to big ol’Wolf, (he’s a dog, not a wolf) making myself at home. A fine way to finalize a fun Friday.

The time flew by and before I knew it, the sun went down, and it was time for me to stagger home. Just kidding. I only had one beer. But as I strolled home, I couldn’t help but smile and think how blessed I am. I had a good day, I have good friends, I live in a great neighborhood, and there are a lot of people out there that truly care about me.

I hope you had a great Friday too.

Friday:) Funny Faces and Family Forever

11 Jun

The face is a picture of the mind with the eyes as its interpreter.” ― Marcus Tullius Cicero

I hope I never get too old to make funny faces in silly places with friends and family. I don’t know what we did before the selfie…I have NO SELFIE CONTROL. I’m a firm believer that laughter is the best medicine and being silly keeps us young. I learned that from my mom, the queen of silly.

I tried to take a selfie with Mom, and she said “No more selfies!” So, I took a picture of her trying to stop my silliness.

It’s Friday night folks! Time for funny faces and Black Russians..

Happy Friday!

Friday:) Friends From Now On And Forever

14 May

“There is nothing I would not do for those who are really my friends. I have no notion of loving people by halves, it is not my nature.” ― Jane Austen, Northanger Abbey

I have some of the greatest friends, old friends and new friends. Yesterday, I got to visit with some of my artist friends at our Art Club luncheon. One of my dear friends, Bonita, was there. I like to take a girlfriend selfie when I see her.

Today, I had lunch with some YMCA girlfriends at Palios. I totally forgot to take a picture. Yikes! Me? Very unusual.

I had a dentist appointment at 2:30, so I stopped at Steinmart for a few minutes and found a cute turquoise blouse. The dentist appointment was just to adjust the crown done a few weeks ago.

I came home, put on my sneakers and went for a walk. Mr. Larry and Miss Sandy were sitting in their garage with salutations and offers of beer, water, or a Coke. I politely declined, but Miss Sandy offered some fresh greens from her garden. That, I was happy to accept. I have the kindest, most generous neighbors.

I came home, washed my greens, and sat out in my back yard when  I got a text from my neighbor, Diane. She said, “Want some company?” She and her dog Bailey came over. We sat out back and drank wine. I have the best friends.

We drank a few glasses of wine, talked, shared stories, laughed, and cried. I have the best friends.

I miss my old friends, but I’ll see them again sometime. I love spending time with my new friends, and I get to see them now and then, the common theme here is…I have the best friends.

Friday:) Fabulous Friday, More Friends, and More Firemen

12 Feb

“I’m glad Friday only comes once a week. I don’t know if I could handle all this fun every day.”

~ Toni Armenta Andrkaitis

I’m going give a recap of last night’s painting party at my house. Ten fabulous ladies came by for my first inaugural wine glass painting party at my house. My dear friend, Linda Grossman, and my new dear friend, Michele Burke, invited friends for a painting demonstration and glass painting party. They brought all kinds of snacks, and drinks, and wine, of course. We chatted, visited, ate, then got down to the serious business of painting. O.K., there was nothing serious about it. I had to use my loud teacher voice, a few whistles, and nearly had to threaten the time out chair for the more boisterous.

About four hours later, everyone learned some new painting techniques, and went home with two lovely hand-painted glasses. Some painted grape clusters, others, bluebonnets, some abstract, and a variety of endeavors. Everyone’s looked different and unique, not like those everyone do the same, paint by numbers type painting classes. All the gals had a good time.

Julie B. Posted her beautiful glasses on her Facebook page, complimenting the talented teacher. (That would be modest me.) Didn’t she do a wonderful job?

So,this morning involved a little more clean up, a butt kicking kickboxing class at 8:30, a stop at fire station #5 to take some brownies and cookies, but all the trucks wer out. I left the container right outside the truck bay where they could find it.

When I got home, I went for a long walk, dropping off more brownies and cookies, some for Diane, a couple for Mr. Mike, and some for Michael and Derrek at the model house sales trailer. Michael gave up sweets for lent, so Derrek had an extra big smile. Later, I boxed up a few more treats for the two little boys across the street. The dad, Brad, is a fireman, and his pick up truck was outside. I didn’t want to ring the bell in case he was sleeping, so I left the container on top of the truck where he’d see it. I also put two little match box fire trucks inside for the boys who will be thrilled when they get home after daycare.

The sun is shining, it’s 69 degrees, I walked for about 1 1/2 hours, I just ate lunch out in the sun, I’m catching some rays while I’m writing this, life doesn’t get much better than this.

Happy Friday from beautiful McKinney Texas, y’all.
