Theme Song Thursday:) Karaoke @Delaney’s

6 Sep

“If you’ve got nothing to dance about, find a reason to sing.”

― Melody Carstairs

****************

Another fun evening with old friends and new friends at Delaney’s Irish Pub. Thursday is karaoke night, and after last week’s last minute cancellation, we weren’t sure if they would cancel again. Especially since it was the big Bears vs. Packers football game at the same time. But alas, karaoke was a go, and our buddy, KJ Justin, was back behind the scenes arranging the songs, and singing a few songs himself.

We had a great mix of great singers and fun songs. It’s hysterical when we all get up to dance. The old and the young, laughing, singing, and dancing. A very fun night.

I sang “You’re So Vain” again. I did a much better job today than I did last week. But, I won’t punish you with my rendition. Here’s Carly Simon to do it right…

If you can’t sing, then dance. If you can’t dance either, do both. Just have fun. Who cares?

Theme Song Thursday:) This One’s For You, Jerry!

We had a blast this evening at Delaney’s Irish Pub singing karaoke. Loretta, Pat, and I sang Jerry’s favorite song, “My Funny Valentine.” Jerry’ was laid up in the hospital a few days, and home now, so he couldn’t make it to karaoke.

This one’s for you Jerry!

The evening started out slow, but more and more people filtered in. A bunch of us got up and danced and laughed and sang. It was great fun.

Then, Pete got up and sang “Me and Mrs. Jones” per my request. I love that song and he has the perfect voice for it.

Another fun night with friends, singing, dancing and sharing laughs.

Friday:) Fun, Friends and Of Course, My Firefighters

Happy Friday, my friends. It’s been a fun week. Yesterday was busy and crazy, and the rest of the weekend looks about the same. After my busy adventures yesterday afternoon, the evening was more relaxed. Our group was over at Delaney’s Irish Pub for karaoke. Paul and Justin had a gig, they are THE TEXAS BLUESMEN, so neither guy was our DJ for karaoke. We had a really nice young man named Shoji. SP? Paul had mentioned on Facebook that the Bluesmen might make an appearance after their gig, along with the Blues-mobile. If you’re not familiar with the movie, “The Blues Brothers,” well, shame on you. Go rent it, or Netflix it or something, it’s so funny.

A few of the usual suspects.

Justin and Paul AKA The Texas Bluesmen. Check them out on Facebook or on-line. They may be performing at a place near you. (If you live in Texas, that is.)

We had a blast…from the past and the future.

Today, all I did was go to Zumba, stop for lunch with the Silver Sneakers YMCA group, a visit to church for Adoration and say the rosary, stop at Kroger, clean the kitchen, pay some bills, make a late lunch, (I just had water at the restaurant), veg for a while, then when I’m done here with my blog, I’ll take my evening walk and maybe catch an awesome sunset, and finish with my traditional Friday Black Russian.

And last but not least… a visit to Fire Stations 9 and 5 with some brownies. McKinney FD is the best.

Happy Friday my friends.

Theme Song Thursday:) At Last

I always look forward to Thursday night. It’s karaoke night at Delaney’s Irish Pub. We had a small group of regulars tonight because quite a few people were traveling this week. But, we also had some new folks join us. One lady, in particular, said that she was just visiting with friends and never sang karaoke before. Oh my goodness, Johnnie has an amazing voice.

Our fearless leader and DJ tonight, Justin, sang a few songs. One of our favorites is “A Boy Named Sue.” It’s a tough one to sing, but he does a great job. I didn’t get a chance to record it. Maybe next time.

I sang a duet with Miss Loretta, “Unforgettable.” We hadn’t practiced it, so I was pretty bad. She has a lovely voice. Then later, I sang “Walk on By.” That was pretty high for me so I squealed and squeaked a little here and there. I always say, “I sing loud and proud and off key, but I love to sing.” (Thank goodness for friends who applaud and don’t boo.) I don’t plan on quitting my day job and going on the road. Wait…I don’t have a day job. Lucky thing,

Still with a song in my heart and on my mind, I came home and was singing a few more songs with YouTube. I liked this one.

Yep, not gonna quit my day job quite yet,..

Theme Song Thursday:) The Cookie Lady Can…

31 May

The Cookie Lady makes everything she bakes, satisfying and delicious…”

~ Me

******

Another fun night at karaoke. Miss Loretta and I sang a special tribute to Miss Pat, THE COOKIE LADY. Miss Pat bakes hundreds of cookies every week. I’m talking HUNDREDS. She bakes them for her daughter’s hair salon, for all her friends and family and takes them to just about everyone she knows and everywhere she goes. And after karaoke, what ever is left over from the five plates full of cookies, I get to drop them off the next morning for my firemen.

“The Cookie Lady can ’cause she mixes it with love and makes the world taste good.”

Thanks for all the cookies, Miss Pat. We love you.

Theme Song Thursday:) The Way He Wears His Hat

“If everyone started off the day singing, just think how happy they’d be.”

Another fun evening with a bunch of great friends at karaoke. We really look forward to meeting friends, enjoying friendship, and being silly. Loretta and I planned a song that we would sing to Jerry. Just enough to embarrass him and just enough to show him that we love him. He loved it.

Here’s to the way he wears his hat… and the way WE sing off key. Fun night.

Friday:) Fun Folks, Friends, Food and Karaoke

“I never said I could sing well. I just said I could sing loud, proud and off key.”

~ Toni Armenta Andrukaitis

***************************

Thursday night’s, we’ve been going up to Delaney’s Irish Pub for karaoke night. As I’ve mentioned, I love to sing, but when I’m off key or miss a few words, that’s ok. My good friends sitting there aren’t paying attention anyway. And, I really impress them when I sing in Spanish because they have no idea what I’m saying or how he tune goes.

Yesterday, a friend of Paul’s, the DJ, had a friend pop in to sing a song. I have no idea who he was, but wow! He was a great singer.

Last week, Marty got up and sang and knocked the socks off the entire place. He’s a regular karaoke guy and has a varied repertoire of songs from oldies to heavy metal rock.

I sang a few standby oldies, and even Loretta got up and sang a song with me last night. No video on that…thank goodness.
