Saturday:) Sometimes It’s Not What You Think

“All things are subject to interpretation. Whichever interpretation prevails at a given time is a function of power and not truth.”

My good friend and neighbor, Allison, called me the other day and invited me to join her at the Collin County Home & Garden Show in Allen today. She is the most amazing gardener, and she’s even taking classes to become a Master Gardner. She already is a master in my book. Her backyard is a little oasis of gardening delight. So, when she heard about this show, she was excited, looking forward to some novel gardening ideas and maybe find some new and exotic plants or flowers for her yard.

When we arrived, we walked through long corridors of tables and booths of vendors hawking their gutters, replacements windows, hot tubs, stamped concrete, etc. We just assumed that these were the exterior vendors that led into the main floor inside the Allen Event Center where we would discover all the wonderful gardening vendors.

Well, when we got inside, there was just a lot more of the same…more booths hawking gutters, knives, hot tubs, painters, roofers, movers, etc. The closest we came to seeing anything that had to do with a garden was the booth with ladies from the Collin County Master Gardeners Association, giving information about joining the group. Allison had just seen them at her class this morning.

We walked through the entire event center, back and forth, looking for anything to do with gardening or plants. As we left, Allison talked to someone on the way out and told them, “They really should call this the HOME SHOW because it had nothing about gardens.” We were both a bit disappointed.

The good news was, the event was in the same shopping center as Home Goods, Kirklands, Total Wine, and a few other cool stores. We drowned our sorrows by shopping, and then a nice dinner. And, it’s always nice to spend the day with a good friend.

So, sometimes what you see is what you get, and other times….

I hope you had a great Saturday.
