Sunday Sermon, Storms and Other Stuff

“A change in the weather is sufficient to recreate the world and ourselves.”

A gorgeous warm sunny Sunday morning. Smiles abounded as I greeted at the door before 9 o’clock Mass. I scurried through the hallways to catch the Chateau bus at the side entrance. The driver was just pulling out the walkers when I approached. Each radiant lady gave me a smile and a hug. Miss Marylyn proudly showed off a collection of bracelets on her wrist that I had given her and the other ladies over the years. How sweet.

Today is Pentecost Sunday. Mr. Jerry scolded me for not wearing red. He said Father Don suggested it in last week’s bulletin. I confessed that I didn’t read it. 🤦‍♀️Oops!

Today’s Gospel was about Jesus appearing to the apostles, showing his wounds..

“he said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. ‘As the Father sent me, so am I sending you.’

22 After saying this he breathed on them and said: Receive the Holy Spirit.

23 If you forgive anyone’s sins, they are forgiven; if you retain anyone’s sins, they are retained.”

My take on it…Jesus was telling the apostles that His Father sent Him to help save mankind, and now He was sending them out to do the same, filled with the Holy Spirit for guidance. As Christians, we are asked to share the Holy Spirit with others through our deeds, not just our words. Just like with children, a good example is the best instructor.

Usually after Mass, we stop for coffee at McDonald’s. Helene wasn’t there and Mr. Jerry had to meet his daughter. So, instead of just going home or stopping at the store, I decided to go all by myself and get my usual iced tea. I took my bulletin and read it from cover to cover, as not to miss anything important this week.

I think I’m prepared now. After reading, checking emails and people watching a while, I walked over to Tom Thumb to pick up a few things for tomorrow’s two different pot lucks that I’m going to. Another busy day tomorrow.

I got home, changed and decided to squeeze in a walk. The gorgeous sunny sky was getting dark and gloomy. I grabbed my umbrella. There was a fine mist after about a mile, then a few distant thunder claps had me scurrying home…just in time. The skies opened up and it poured. The

wind whipped at the windows.

About a half hour later, the sun popped out and the entire sky was crystal blue. That’s the good news. The bad news is that part of my back fence is broken and leaning in my neighbor’s yard.🤦‍♀️ I finished my walk and there were a lot of big limbs and branches down throughout the neighborhood. It was a pretty brutal little burst of a storm.

On my walk, everything looked fresh and green and purged of dirt. A few puddles on the sidewalk had me walking in the street. That was a lucky thing because I found a threatening rusty screw on the road, right behind someone’s driveway. Thus again, saving the world, one flat tire at a time.
