My Saturday Evening Post :) A Post-Post

“A play on words never needs any actors.”

As I suggested yesterday, I wanted to share a post on how I painted with coffee, and call it my Saturday Evening Post. I did some practicing, then created a step by step demo for my senior artist group. This was a good time to make an instruction video for anyone that might be interested. Also, a little humor and play on words would be fun.

So here is my Saturday Evening Post.

Actually, this is my broken fence post that had to get replaced. A broken fence post can be replaced, but a clever written post is irreplaceable.

PAINTING WITH COFFEE

I used a small 8×10 canvas and added different layers of liquid coffee. The first layer thinned with water, adding thicker coffee at the edges, then creating a border.

The butterfly shape was traced on watercolor paper, a light thinned coffee layer that allowed a wet-on-wet surface to drop in darker edges and dots to bleed and blend. The finer details were added as the paper dried.

I cut out the butterfly, bent the wings up, then glued only the long center body section to make a 3-D coffee painting.

Thanks for visiting my Saturday Evening Post.🙋

I wonder how it would work mixed with gesso. Makes my acrylics creamy colored. Have you tried painting with cocoa powder?(just wondering)

I haven’t painted with cocoa powder but I use it to set the coffee painting, I’ll try the gesso idea, thanks. 👩‍🎨
