Sunday Sermon, Scandal, and International Dog Day

“What people need to remember is they are eternal beings and that they never die.”~Kuan Yin”

It has been hot, hot, hot here in Texas. But, greeting at the door before morning Mass is always refreshing. It was exceptionally crowded at 9 o’clock Mass. I think all the back to school hub-bub and chaos has settled down and the families are back into their routine. Lots of hugs.

I’m sure you all are aware of the news, controversy, scandal and pain the Catholic Church is going through right now. We were all asked to pray for our church and all the people involved. So, today’s Gospel is very appropriate for what’s going on.

Jesus spoke to the disciples, knowing before hand that not all would believe in Him and that some would betray Him. He didn’t stop them from leaving.

My take on it…Man was given free will. Not all will believe in the word of God. Not all will be honest and good. It’s not just priests. Men and women have choices. There are good and bad priests, ministers, politicians, teachers, doctors, husbands, wives, men and women. I think Jesus was telling us that we have a choice to follow Him and have eternal life, or leave Him and only live an earthly life. There will be a judgement day.

“The words I have spoken to you are Spirit and life.

But there are some of you who do not believe.”

Jesus knew from the beginning the ones who would not believe

and the one who would betray him.

And he said,

“For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me

unless it is granted him by my Father.”

As a result of this,

many of his disciples returned to their former way of life

and no longer accompanied him.

Jesus then said to the Twelve, “Do you also want to leave?”

Simon Peter answered him, “Master, to whom shall we go?

You have the words of eternal life.

We have come to believe

and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God.”

The other stuff… I found out on Facebook that today is international dog day. I no longer have dogs of my own, but I did for many years. I know about their unconditional love and loyalty. Mankind could learn a lot from a dog.

But, I am the proud doggie auntie of little Bella. She belongs to Mr. Mike, my friend and neighbor. He travels a lot for business, and I have Bella stay with me when he’s gone. She loves me. Sometimes it seems like I have her at my house as much as her own. The funny part is, Mr. Mike and I have the same house model, so she’s very much at home in both.

Isn’t she cute?

Here she is saying…”Not another walk! I’m not going one more step. It’s too hot!” Not really. She likes to roll in the cool grass on a hot day. She loves her walks. She would go every hour if I took her.
