“Thank God I found the GOOD in goodbye”

Beyoncé Knowles

My week was finally feeling like normal. Back to Zumba, lunches, shopping, doctor and dentist and walking and talking with friends. I went to karaoke at the VFW tonight. I hadn’t been there in quite a while. There were familiar faces and friends, and some new faces and voices.

My first song was my signature standard, go to with out having to think, “Leaving on a Jet Plane.” Then, I decided to be bold for my second song, and try a new song that I never sang before. Hmm? That wasn’t even the half of it. I picked, “Perfidia” by Linda Rondstadt. Oops! It was all in Spanish. I stumbled over a few words here and there. The good part was, pretty much everyone sitting and listening, had no idea what I was saying, much less if I messed up. That’s a good tip. I think I’ll sing in Spanish from now on.

It was a fun evening. I got home about 10, and listened to a few more songs on YouTube and sang along. I was in a singing mood, so I scrolled around and ran across this beautiful song. “Goodbye’s the Saddest Word.” It made me cry. I was just telling one of my friends at karaoke tonight that there always seems to be a perfect song to describe how you’re feeling at any given time. Sometimes happy, sometimes sad. Someone’s written a song about it.

It has been two weeks since we lost Mom, but it still seems unreal. I reach for the phone to call her every morning. I stop and remember. But then, I just talk to her out loud, without the phone. A different kind of long distance call.
