Sunday Sermon and Other Stuff

8 Jan

I just find myself happy with the simple things. Appreciating the blessings God gave me.

It was good to be back greeting at the door of St. Gabriel before 9 am Mass this morning. I had been missed, and I missed my friends and the familiar faces that always smile back. The new church construction is coming along, slowly but surely. I like that the purple and blue underpayment is still there.

Today’s Gospel was the story of the Magi following the star, in search of the newborn king. King Herod asked them to come back once they found him so that he might pay homage to the child. He lied. He was going to harm him. The Magi followed the star and found the child.

“Then they opened their treasures

and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod,

they departed for their country by another way.”

My take on it… We often are in search of that special something or someone, and there may be that bad person that tries to lead you astray or destroy you. Follow your star and your dreams, and stay clear of liars, cheaters and pretenders. It may be difficult, so follow your heart and your gut.

At the end of Mass, father called up all the January birthdays and anniversaries for a special blessing. I’m extra blessed today. It was a good day.
