Throw Back Thursday:) Nostalgia

“The more I think about the past, the more I realize how quickly it passed me by.”

~Toni Armenta Andrukaitis

I love being domestic. I love to bake, and cook, and clean. OK! I lied about the cleaning. Nobody likes to clean. When I took out my old harvest gold General Electric mixer, I paused a minute. My mother gave me that mixer in 1975. The bowl that I was pouring the lemon cake mix into was the original brown Pyrex set from the same era. Sitting on the counter was the smallest of the nesting Pyrex casseroles, white with corn flower blue. Oh, and that’s the original measuring cup.  All these items are over forty years old. All wedding gifts and still in perfect working order and condition. They get used all the time.

I had to laugh. The mixer lasted longer than the marriage. I can laugh about it now! If something is made well and taken care of, it will last a lifetime. See the correlation?

Just because something is old and not so pretty anymore, it shouldn’t be thrown away or replaced. It has been dependable all these years. It should be cherished. I look at my old things and I smile. I’m not throwing these things away, and I hope they out live me, and someone else can cherish them when I’m gone.

Now, back to my baking…
