Sunday Sermon and Other Stuff

9 Oct

“Believe in your heart that you’re meant to live a life full of passion, purpose, magic and miracles.”
― Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart

It was a cool Sunday morning, and I was thrilled to wear a sweater. But alas, by the time Mass was over, the Texas sun was beating down and it was warming up fast. As Mary and I greeted at the door before 9 o’clock Mass,  many hugs and handshakes and smiles were exchanged. It was the children’s choir service and there was a baptism. A good start to the day.

Today, Father Don decided to discuss the second reading instead of the Gospel. We are told that if we make our requests to God through prayer and giving thanks, we will receive. The old, ask and ye shall receive story. My take on it…yes, you need to ask for what you want or believe that your dreams can come true, and they will. But, you have to believe with a true heart and work towards your goal with pure passion.

Reading 2 PHIL 4:6-9

Brothers and sisters: Have no anxiety at all, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Keep on doing what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me. Then the God of peace will be with you.

After church, I stopped at the store and bought a ton of groceries. Brownie mixes were on sale. Oh, no! You can never have too many boxes of brownies in the pantry. Also, the cowboys were playing today, so if you wear a team jersey, on game day, you get an addiction 10% of your total purchase.

Miss Pat, the “Cookie Lady” from our single mingle group, invited a bunch of us over to her house to watch the Packers/Cowboys game. I didn’t eat all day in anticipation of the feast that I knew she would prepare. I wasn’t disappointed.

It was an interesting game to watch because Miss Pat is from Wisconsin, so she and many of her family are Packers fans, but others are die hard Cowboys fans. This is Texas after all! There was some good humored taunting and flaunting when Dallas was in the lead. Then the mood shifted when the Packers charged ahead.

I guess it was an exciting game, not sure, as I wasn’t  exactly paying attention. I was just there for the fine food, desserts, and comaraderie.

Packers vs Cowboys
Final – Sun, Oct 8, 3:25 PM

AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Texas

Green Bay Packers(4-1).  35

Dallas Cowboys(2-3)  31

Miss Pat was a happy “Cheddar Head.” She asked for a Packer win, and she got it.
